Acupuncture, in combination with Chinese Herbs, have been applied to help with different types of heart diseases, including but not limited to the following.

Arrhythmia

Arrhythmia refers to disturbance in frequency or/and rhythm of heart beating. Clinical manifestations are paid or slow heart rate, irregular heartbeat, or/and premature heartbeat, flutter, fibrillation, arrest of beat and the corresponding syndromes. It is usually divided as rapid arrhythmia and slow arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is similar to “palpitation” and “fearful throbbing” in Chinese Medicine. This disease is usually caused by weak constitution, emotional stimulation and invasion of pathogenic factors that lead to malnutrition of the heart due to the deficiency of qi, blood, yin and yang; or by phlegm-fire attacking the heart and stagnation of heart blood. In severe cases even sudden collapse of heart yang and separation of yin and yang may occur.

Coronary Heart Disease

Coronary heart disease is a kind of heart disease caused by myocardial ischemia and hypoxia resulting from vascular obstruction in coronary atherosclerosis. The clinical manifestations are angina pectoris, myocardiac infarction, arrhythmia, heart failure and cardiectasis. The electrocardiogram may indicate myocardial ischemia or corresponding changes. Coronary heart disease is one of the commonly encountered heart vessel diseases among the middle aged and old people. It is similar to “chest impediment”, “real heart pain”, “cold pain of heart” in Chinese Medicine. The occurrence of coronary heart disease is usually related to aging, weakness, improper diet and emotional factors that often lead to inactivation of chest yang, blockage of yin-cold and turbid phlegm in the collaterals, and qi stagnation and blood stasis.

Sequela of Apoplexy

Sequela of apoplexy refers to paralysis of limbs, facial hemiplegia, and difficulty in speaking after the attack of acute cerebrovascular diseases. The disease belongs to “stroke”, or “hemiplegia” in Chinese Medicine. It is caused by non-restoration of the visceral functions, restoration of phlegm of blood stasis in the meridians with disturbed flow of meridian qi.
